Open Bite
In an open bite, there is a space between the upper and lower front teeth when the back teeth are closed together and contacting. There are many reasons that can cause an open bite: history of prolonged thumb or finger sucking, tongue thrusting, trauma, over-eruption of back teeth, abnormal jaw growth, etc. This situation can make tearing into foods very difficult and can also cause speech problems like a frontal lisp.

*Attachments are tooth-coloured buttons on the front of teeth.
**IPR is Interproximal Reduction, enamel removal or reshaping between teeth.

Open Bite, Gaps and Spaces
Self-conscious of her multiple gaps and large spaces between her teeth, she was looking to close these spaces. We corrected her open bite, straightened her teeth and closed the spaces- she was so thrilled!

She was unhappy that her upper front teeth stuck out so far and didn’t want metal braces. We widened her jaw, aligned and brought in her upper front teeth with Invisalign.
